Jesus in Caesarea Philippi
(a poetical rendition of Matthew 16:13-20)
Jesus in Caesarea
Philippi one day,
Asked of disciples,
Who is the Son you say?
John Baptist came the answer,
Elijah's mentioned too,
And some say Jeremiah,
Or prophets say a few
But what is your opinion?
Jesus kept his thrust,
What am I that you say?
Who is it that you trust?
Simon Peter answered:
To us you are Messiah,
The Son and one and only,
The living God you are
Jesus answered 'Bless you,
It didn't come to you by flesh,
No blood gave you your answer,
The Father gave it fresh
And so I say you're Peter,
And you shall be my rock,
I'll build my church upon you,
And Hell won't ever knock
I will give you heaven,
The keys to it are yours,
It will be your kingdom,
As long as you endure
Bindings on this planet,
Will be forever set,
Lose all that's not wanted,
Never have regret
Then Jesus gave instruction,
His secret they should keep:
None shall know me truly,
And of this you'll not speak.
