Moses' Signs
(from Exodus 4: 1-17)
When Moses said, 'What if they,
don't believe, I met You today?'
God replied, I'LL GIVE YOU SIGNS,
TO PROVE TO THEM, THAT YOU ARE MINE
THE FIRST SIGN THAT I'LL GIVE TO YOU,
IS IN YOUR HAND, so Moses threw,
His staff aground and there it span,
Into a snake from which he ran
Until God said, GO GRAB ITS TAIL,
WITH SIGNS LIKE THIS YOU CANNOT FAIL,
The snake returned to wood again,
And Moses got some confidence
When God then said, NOW HIDE YOUR HAND,
INSIDE YOUR CLOAK, he did so and,
When it came out had turned to white,
Like leper's skin, a snowy blight
Then when he put his hand back in,
And pulled it out he'd normal skin,
All was restored as by design,
And Moses had his second sign
Not finished there, God added more,
IF NONE BELIEVE, THEN TO BE SURE,
GO TAKE SOME WATER FROM THE NILE,
AND ADD IT TO A DRY SAND PILE
THE WATER YOU POUR ON THE MOUND,
WILL BE DEEP RED UPON THE GROUND,
BECOMING BLOOD TO MAKE THEM GASP,
GO MOSES, DO JUST AS I ASK!
But Moses, still not sure of speech,
Said, 'How can I make my words reach?
I'm tied of tongue, my words don't flow,
And when it comes to chat, I'm slow
Pardon me Lord, I'm not the best,
Send someone else and let me rest,'
God's anger burned, but when he'd done,
He said, YOUR BROTHER THEN, ASK AARON,
IT WILL BE JUST LIKE HIS MOUTH IS YOURS,
HIS WORDS WILL SPEAK WHAT IS GOD'S CAUSE,
BUT TAKE THIS STAFF ALONG WITH YOU,
SO YOU CAN MAKE YOUR SIGNS THERE TOO.
