Being Competent

(based on 2 Corinthians 3:1-6)

Do we need encouragement,
To say that we're the best
Like people asking voters:
'Who's better than the rest?'

You are your own letter,
You recommend yourself,
It's written in the pages,
Of your loving heart

Everyone that knows you,
Reads you for your love,
Christ is like a postman,
Delivering from above

All of Jesus' teachings,
Live inside your depths,
No pen can write the letter,
That the Spirit sets

On human hearts its written,
Not tablets made of stone,
A confidence unshaken,
In Christ the Lord alone

It is not a skill set,
Or anything we chance,
You are now an expert,
In God's deliverance

He has made us able,
The world is ours to sow,
Promises in old ways,
New pledges from which grow

We don't follow letters,
The Spirit writes our words,
A covenant of loving,
New life is what is heard.
